George’s BBQ Sauce Wins Third Overall in Coolest Thing Made in NC

George’s BBQ Sauce is excited to announce it placed 3rd overall in the Coolest Thing Made in NC Contest by the NC Chamber of Commerce. This marks the third consecutive year George’s has finished in the Top 5 of the annual competition and the first year the Nashville-based BBQ sauce company has competed in the “Small Business” category.

About 46,000 online votes were cast in the contest. More than 1,500+ votes were cast for George’s in the last week alone, solidifying its 3rd-place achievement. In 2021, George’s finished 4th overall, and in 2020, 3rd overall in fan voting.

“We’re incredibly thankful to finish in the top 5 for the third straight year! It just shows how many great fans and customers we have out there,” said Ashley & Brian Hassell, Owners of George’s BBQ Sauce. “We couldn’t be successful without y’alls support, and we’re just truly blessed to be doing what we love with family and friends by our side. Thank you, everyone! #GrabAGeorges!”

The final ranking of the Top 5 broken down:

  • BeachBUB, Greensboro, NC

  • Crab Pot Christmas Trees, Smyrna, NC

  • George’s BBQ Sauce, Nashville, NC

  • SOLOCART, Holly Springs, NC

  • Artisan Leaf Design, Wilson, NC

There were 80 businesses nominated, and several rounds of voting resulted in five finalists in two categories, small business and medium to large business.

The small business category is for companies with fewer than 100 employees.

About George’s Sauces

Since 1975, our sauces have been made by hand, in small batches using the same family recipe. A vinegar-based, Eastern NC style barbecue sauce: simple to make, difficult to perfect. Flavors include "Original" - our standard vinegar-based recipe; "Hot" - featuring our original style, but with double the heat; "Special" - a tomato-based tribute to some of our western-loving fans.
